The town of Bayahibe is located 16 kilometers east from the city of La Romana in the Caribbean Sea. Founded in 1874, remained as a fishermen village for many years before becoming the touristic destination it is today; its name is indigenous and even though its meaning is unknown, it has the root word “baya” used in many tainos’ names. Baya is the name given to mollusks that are glued to rock or to the roots of mangrove trees.
Bayahibe has also an exotic flower called Pereskia Quisqueyana, better known by the locals as Flower of Bayahibe, endemic of the area. The beach of Bayahibe, that holds the same name, is less than two kilometers from the center of town and is the port from where excursions to Isla Saona depart. Also close, less than four kilometers from there, is Dominicus beach.
These two beaches, thanks to Viva Wyndham Dominicus Beach and Palace and other hoteliers of the area, hold the European Blue Flag International Certification. These are the first beaches of the Caribbean to receive this certification which is given for complying with the requirements on water quality, environmental education, environmental management and security services.
One of the main attractions of Bayahibe is scuba diving; there are at least 10 scuba diving shops around the main beach, many of them take visitors to different diving sites; there are more than 20 places where you can go diving near Bayahibe.

La Romana
La Romana is one of the most internationally renowned cities of the Dominican Republic, due in huge part to many famous figures that visit every year. Its beginnings are related to the economic history of the country, because here was established the largest private sugar refinery, Central Romana, although its international boost came from tourism. The name La Romana comes from a balancing weight that colonos used in old sugar refineries to weight sugarcane, which numbers were written in roman style.
This province, located in the east region of the Republic, has the waters of the Caribbean Sea to the south; and the majority of its economic activities are linked to such privileged geographic position.

East National Park
Bayahibe is near Casa de Campo, plus it has one of the entrances of the East National Park, a reserve with virgin beaches and other natural attractions that have not been damage by the human hand.
From Bayahibe there are excursions that take you to a beautiful islet with immense natural beauty: the Saona Island. The park also has caves with pre-Columbian pictography and carved stones by the tainos; one side of the coast is ideal to scuba dive because of the impressive diversity in the formation of corals it has. To the southeast of the park, there are mangroves and different kinds of birds.
Chavon
The artistic village of Altos de Chavon is a cultural community located right above the Chavon River. Built at the end of the 70s, was designed to emulate a southern Italian and Spanish village of the 15th century. There you’ll find craft workshops, art studios, galleries and restaurants. It’s the home of one campus of the prestigious art school Parsons The New School for Design.
You cannot miss its famous amphitheater. The main artistic scenario of Altos de Chavon goes in accordance with the architecture of the place and impresses you with its beauty. However, it achieved international recognition because of the big name stars that have performed there. Its inaugural concert, in 1982, set the pace for what the amphitheater will be by showcasing the incomparable Frank Sinatra. To this date, many renowned artists have performed there.
