Located in the North coast of the Dominican Republic, and only 20 minutes from the Puerto Plata International Airport (POP), it’s conveniently accessible for travelers from any part of the world. Considered as one of the best 10 places in the world for practicing windsurf, Cabarete invites you to spend an exciting vacation in which the fun under the sun and the enjoyment under the moon have no end. If you love the tropic, windsurf and nightlife, Cabarete is the place for you. The town of Cabarete is spread out across the center of a gorgeous, semi-circular beach of golden, sun-soaked, sand. Just behind, limiting its size, lays a tranquil lagoon, backed up by richly verdant hills overflowed with luxurious tropical vegetation.
This was an almost unknown place until the late 80s when it started to gain popularity because of its spectacular conditions to practice nautical sports. Cabarete has a perfect blend of elements that surround it and make it ideal to practice such sports. The direction to where the winds blow, the reef at the bay entrance and the hills behind the village that mix causing a unique thermal effect, make up a beautiful landscape and an unusual combination of wind conditions and perfect waves for kitesurfing, windsurfing and surfing. June is the month with the best wind, with an average range from 15 to 25 knots, to do any of these sports; however, there are conditions to practice them any time of the year. Today, there’s a variety of opportunities to practice sports as sailing, waterskiing, windsurfing and kitesurfing, among others.
If you don’t practice any of these sports, don’t worry, you can simply enjoy as a spectator of any of the multiple tournaments held here each year. The ambiance in Cabarete is young and bohemian. It is very easy to make friends that will accompany you in an adventure or show you around. There is a place for everyone, from single gals to families with children; no doubt, you’ll find your ideal vacation here.
