About La Romana

La Romana is perhaps the most internationally-renowned Dominican city, despite it being one of the youngest in the country. Its urban development began the first decades of this century with the establishment of the Puerto Rico Sugar Company villa; founding perhaps the largest sugar mill belonging to the private sector, owned by the Central Romana Corporation. Bayahibe & La Romana have a lot to offer with their many years of combined history and culture. Experience its appeal and fall in love with these heavenly places.

Altos de Chavón

Culture, music and art come together as one in this special place. Its cobble-covered alleyways and enticing colonial façade leaves one breathless. The artistic village of Altos de Chavón is a cultural community overlooking the Chavón River. Handicraft workshops, art studios, galleries and restaurants abound.
Visitors may not leave without first seeing its famous amphitheatre; one is left in awe by the venue’s monumental beauty, in concert with its architectural design. This internationally-acclaimed arena had its inaugural concert debut in 1982 with the illustrious Frank Sinatra. A great number of artists of international accolades have performed here. It is also home to one of the campuses of the prestigious Parsons, The New School of Design (http://www.altosdechavon.com).

National Park of the East

The town of Bayahibe, near to Casa de Campo (http://www.casadecampo.com.do) is one of the gateways to the National Park of the East, a natural reserve with virgin beaches and other natural attractions.
In its interior, the park has many caves depicting pre-Columbian pictographs in their inner dwellings, as well as stone carvings left by the Taíno Indians. The overwhelming diversity of pristine corals makes these impeccable coastlines an idyllic setting to dive in. The southeastern border of the park is lined with mangrove swamps and an unprecedented number of bird species.

Isla Saona

Speedboats and other types of vessels depart from Bayahibe towards this islet of invaluable natural beauty, one of the largest adjacent to the Hispaniola, and a territory of the National Park of the East, serving as a sanctuary to many species of migratory birds. Isla Saona also possesses fascinating caves, such as Cotubanamá, named in honor of the proud indigenous chief.
The island has a picturesque settlement called Mano Juan, one of the few populated areas inside this national park. It is inhabited by fishermen who live in pastel-colored wooden houses turned craftsman center. We encounter dream beaches surrounded by delicate white sand, bathed in crystal-clear waters and positioned in between millions of coconut palm trees.

Isla Catalina

Isla Catalina, or Serena Key, as it also has come to be known by many is a gorgeous white sand island in close proximity to the southeastern coastline of Bayahibe. It lies on a pristine and protected area of the National Park of the East surrounded by an ocean in a never-ending state of absolute tranquility. This hidden paradise is an ideal setting for Caribbean fun spanning kilometers of beaches to indulge under its immaculate sand and warm waters. A welcoming ocean for all kinds of water sports in an environment blending many colors of a tropical sphere and in sublime communion with its surroundings.
